Foster-based rescue since 1998

Every cat deserves a kind place to land.

Heartland Humane Society of Missouri helps cats move from uncertainty into safe homes, loving foster rooms, cozy cafe visits, and, for independent cats, trusted working-cat placements.

About the rescue

A volunteer-powered rescue with a very practical kind of love.

Heartland is a 501(c)(3) foster-based rescue serving abandoned, abused, and unwanted pets. The group has been saving animals for more than 25 years and helps around 400 pets each year through adoptions, foster homes, PetSmart locations, and Whisker Station Cat Cafe.

The new site keeps that heart, but makes the choices simpler: adopt, foster, donate, or learn whether the Working Cat Barn Program is the right fit.

Adopt

Start with the cat, not the paperwork.

Meet cats through Heartland's adoptable cat listing, PetSmart locations, and Whisker Station Cat Cafe. The adoption page brings the current cat links and application path together.

Companion Cats

Check current availability and use the adoption application link when you find a possible match.

Kitten adopters should be ready for energy, patience, routine vet care, and pair guidance.

Shy or Senior Cats

For gentle people who know trust can take a little time.

Quiet cats deserve patient homes, honest profiles, and a simple path to meet them.

Foster

A spare room can become the safest place in a cat's week.

Heartland asks foster applicants to be at least 23, the head of household, and able to provide landlord information when renting. The redesigned page should make those basics visible before the application link, then explain the support fosters receive.

  • Simple foster expectations and home setup guidance.
  • Short stories showing the difference a foster home makes.
  • A clear application button that never gets buried.

Working Cat Barn Program

Some cats are happiest with shelter, food, and a job to do.

The Working Cat Barn Program helps semi-social, semi-feral, or behaviorally challenged cats find safe barns, warehouses, farms, and other responsible placements when indoor adoption is not the right match.

A good working-cat home provides:

  1. A warm, secure, dry shelter away from predators.
  2. A confined acclimation space for up to three weeks.
  3. Daily food, water, monitoring, and veterinary care when needed.

Most placements are in pairs, with single cats considered case by case.
